Lafayette Parks and Recreation:
Bountiful Opportunities

Head for Lafayette’s parks, and you’ll see acres of results under the leadership of Mayor Tony Roswarski.

A few of the recent highlights: implementation of family-affordable aquatic passes at the city’s three pools, extension of the Wabash Heritage Trail and record use of McAllister Center, where sports and kids camp are just the beginning of popular activities.

The Parks Department has also successfully managed the Lafayette Municipal Golf Course, keeping it affordable yet self-supporting, with no tax dollars spent on it. And pet lovers are enjoying the new Lafayette Dog Park, a place where dogs can safely enjoy the great outdoors along with their owners.

New playground equipment and other improvements have been made at parks throughout the city. Cat Park has new restrooms, a concession building and an expanded park lot. At Lyboult Field, the parking lot and the Cloud Jockey’s runway have been improved.

Lafayette Community Parks
Neighborhood parks, so important to families and children, now shine with safe play equipment, picnic tables and varied ways for residents to enjoy outdoor recreation. Those recently renovated include Arlington Park, Centennial Park, Darby Park, Hanna Park and Triangle Park (is underway).

Columbian Park Petting Zoo Upgrades continue at the city’s largest and most popular outdoor spot, too. Columbian Park Zoo reopened this summer with a petting zoo, sculpture park, butterfly garden and prairie dog exhibit, the third phase of zoo renovation. It’s an interactive spot for youngsters, offering fun and education.

Important structural improvements were also made at Loeb Stadium, and the Senior Center was renovated, among other park spruce-ups.
